It became the perfect diversion to my utterly crazy and unadventurous life I've had recently. I loved all the swashbuckling, seafaring, pirating, voodoo, Gypsies, secret societies, and its setting in a newly colonized California/US and Napoleonic Spain.

But it has every bit of action and adventure that you would want from the masked avenger. The writing isn't the greatest here there's no really astounding lessons to be learned sometimes the cliches get to be a little much. I wonder how it will measure up to the movies and TV show, but I would kind of like this to be my image of Zorro. I'm not terribly familiar with all the different incarnations of this character, but I grew up with him as my mother was a huge Zorro fan. Once I could find a better piece of time here and there, though, I really couldn't put it down. Between one crazy mess of a life and a little bit of a rocky start, it took me about a hundred or so pages to really sink my teeth into Zorro. I've been wanting to read Allende for several years now and have another of hers on my shelf waiting in the ranks, but when I saw that she had a take on Zorro, I knew I couldn't resist. After about a month, I can finish a book.
